About

Who we are

Palakkad is an emotionally nostalgic feeling for all those who hail from Palakkad but left their home there seeking better prospects.

They carry and nurture this amazing feeling close to their heart in whichever corner of the world they happen to be. Delhi & NCR also has a sizeable number of Palakkadans among its Keralite population, though they stand closely embedded into the Malayalee ways of life. The homogenous togetherness of this sub-group, more often, give expression to their missing physical and social environment, art, culture and culinary specialisations in varied ways but have always felt the need for a formal forum to give vent to their nostalgic feelings relating to their home town. Thus was born the Palakkadan Koottayma.

As it happens, when we thought of an association like this, it was necessary to have a formal shape, structure and objectives and the manner in which the association will function to fulfil the aspirations of Palakkadans in Delhi & NCR. In line with this, Memorandum of Association and Bye Laws were charted delineating its main aims and objectives, rules of governance and membership, rights and obligations of the Governing Council and the members, etc. and got itself registered with the Registrar of Societies vide No.________ on_________. While looking for a formal set up we have consciously built in ease and flexibility in its functioning for a free and fair play of ideas and opinions for strengthening the development and bond among the Palakkadans. The Koottayma also enlisted the support and participation of Members of Parliament representing the two constituencies in Palakkad and they are the Patrons of the Koottayma.

The Koottayma will surely look at and work for improvements in its home district Palakkad and will take up programmes to represent and influence decisions from the Central Government for the development and progress of the district. Another main objective of the Koottayma is to work with other similar groups irrespective of class, creed, religion or nativity, etc. for advancing the principles of universal brotherhood and peaceful coexistence.

The immediate objective will be to bring together all Palakkadans and provide a forum for them to express and exhibit their talents on the educational, literary and artistic skills and present the age old rural and folk art tradition of Palakkad to the people in Delhi & NCR. The physical and mental wellbeing and development of its members will always be an overriding concern of the Koottayma.
